Fly fishing is by and large a solitary pursuit and that’s probably a big reason why we like it. If anything you will probably fish with the same few friends time and again. The problem with this is it’s easy to stagnate a little with your fishing, trying the same techniques and tactics again and again because that is all you know. The CPS Vice Squad is designed to get CPS members and non-members alike to meet up and share ideas. Where else would you get this many fly fishing mad people in one room?
Each Vice Squad is anchored by fly tying demonstrations from some of South Africa’s best from Ed Herbst to Tim Rolston, Gordon van der Spuy, Matt Rich, Richard Wale, MC Coetzer and so on. Some of these guys are highly skilled generalists, while others like Jimmy Eagleton the “haai guy” specialize in more niche pursuits like fly fishing for sharks.
While the drawcard is the fly tying, if that does not interest you there are fly fishing DVDs on the go, a whole CPS library to check out and plenty of different crowds plundering the bar (R10 a drink). In short, the evening is informal and relaxed and there is something for everyone, young and grizzled.
