The Jan du Toit River

The Cape Piscatorial Society (CPS) and the Mountain Club of South Africa (MCSA) have a memorandum of understanding with CapeNature providing limited access to the Jan du Toits River.

Access permits are allocated annually through a raffle-style draw and are subject to the rules and regulations agreed with CapeNature, the MCSA and the local landowner over whose property access is required.

Eligible CPS members wishing to fish the Jan du Toits should look out for the annual draw announcement and entry form. The draw usually takes place towards the end of August.

Only eligible, fully paid-up CPS members may enter the draw. Members who won a slot in the prior years draw are not eligible to enter the current years draw.

There is no other access to the Jan du Toits River outside of the permits allocated through this process.

Entry Form

Rules for draw:

  • Only fully paid-up CPS members with Annual or Country Membership may enter. Temporary memberships are not eligible.
  • Members must either attend the 2026 CPS AGM or pay the R250 entrance fee.
  • The 2026 AGM will be held on 20 August 2026 at 19:00, in the clubroom or online.
  • A member cannot win a slot two years in a row. Therefore, winners of the 2025 draw are excluded from the 2026 draw.
  • Entries close on 27 August 2026 at 19:00. No late entries will be considered.
  • All valid entries will be ranked randomly.
  • Week slots will be allocated by rank – the higher your rank, the better your chance of securing your preferred week.
  • If a winner decides to pass on their slot, it will be offered to the next entrants in order of rank.
  • Attendance at the draw is not required. Winners will be notified.

How to Enter:

  1. Ensure your CPS Annual or Country Membership is fully paid up and current.
  2. Attend the 2026 AGM on 20 August 2026, or pay the R250 entrance fee.
  3. Select your preferred dates on the online form.
  4. Submit your entry via the online form: Entry Form
  5. If paying the R250 entrance fee, use the following bank details:
