Klipkrans Dam

Klipkrans is the Cape Piscatorial Society’s secondary stillwater venue. It is a large dam on the banks of the Breede River. Klipkrans offers members the opportunity to catch some large brown and rainbow trout. Furthermore, it offers members the opportunity to fly fish from float tubes, non-motorised watercraft or by wading from the bank.

Being such a large body of water, the dam offers cool to cold water for trout to thrive in during much of the year. The best fishing occurs, however, during winter snow caps the surrounding mountains.

Klipkrans complements the CPS rivers well, as the stillwater season does not close during the winter months. This allows members to continue fishing when the rivers are closed to angling.

CPS Members can also contact Andre Griesel – the owner of Klipkrans to book camping and tented accommodation should they plan for a longer fishing trip. All the details for this is on the detailed instructions below.

As is the case with Lakenvlei, fishing at Klipkrans is restricted to fly fishing only. However, unlike all the CPS-administered streams, anglers are entitled to keep two fish over 35cm per day

Fishing is available to members only, although temporary membership to visiting anglers can be arranged. Keys to access Lakenvlei can be collected from: the Clubroom, Stream X, Upstream, Flytalk or Albe Nel (Ceres) and a deposit of R220 is required. The deposit will be refunded if the keys are returned within 7 days.
